Tips For Preventing and Thawing Freezing Pipes
1/4/2019 (Permalink)
When freezing weather approaches in Houston, TX things can get rather problematic and this does not only include frozen roads. You could also become subjected to freeze created leaks. Due to frozen water expanding within pipes, it could crack the copper tubing. This not only limits your water supply, but when the pipes do defrost there may be a severe leakage repair. Luckily there are aids to prevent pipes from freezing.
Tips to Help Prevent Freezing Pipes:
- Fix source of any drafts (i.e. dryer vents, bathroom fan vents, windows, ect) and insulate pipes in all areas devoid of heat, such as crawl spaces, basements, attic, and garage.
- Keep doors to all rooms open to allow heat flow to all areas.
- Keep all water-supply piping away from outside walls, where it could be exposed to cold weather
- Open all faucets, both and hot and cold water, to just a trickle, to keep water moving in the pipes and prevent icing.
- Open cabinets under the sinks so warm air temperature can flow around the plumbing. (Be sure to keep cleaners and other hazardous chemicals away from children and pets.)
